Classic Pointers of Upland Game

Welcome to Mackinaw Llewellins
Mackinaw Llewellins is passionately dedicated to training, hunting and breeding upland game dogs.
Our goal is to develop pointing dogs that are equally at home in the northern grouse woods as they are in the piney bobwhite quail forests of the south eastern US.
During the winter months we train and hunt at our Polley Creek Ranch located in the Florida Panhandle and during summer and autumn we head to our northern location in grouse woods of northern Michigan.
We welcome all pointing breeds to come train or hunt with us. We also conduct training to help prepare the dogs and handlers for Field Trials and Hunt Tests.
Mackinaw Llewellins are proven versatile hunters. Our dogs have hunted grouse, woodcock, quail, pheasant and chukar, from the wide open prairies of the Midwest, to the thick grouse woods of the Great Lakes states, to the pine plantations of the South.
Our Llewellins are natural upland pointer and retrievers, and love to retrieve from the water as well.
Excellence in Hunting
We have been training many different types of working/sporting dogs (and horses) for decades including retrievers, search and rescue, etc.; but have focused on our love for the pointing upland field dog for the last 15 years.
We utilize positive reinforcement and place heavy emphasis on handler–dog bonding to ensure both work as a team in the field. The dog must trust that the handler will utilize wind, terrain and cover to place the dog in the best position for success. The handler must trust the dog’s breeding and nose and natural hunting instincts.
Training
Polley Creek Ranch, located in Northwest Florida, has 60+ acres of prime quail habitat and an abundance of deer & turkey. It is bordered by Blackwater State Forest Wildlife Management Area (WMA), one of the best wild quail hunting areas in the south, providing direct access to thousands of acres of hunting land from the ranch.
There is a beautiful state campground located on Karick Lake only 5 miles from the ranch. The campground has electric/water hook ups and a dump station.
The beaches of Destin or Navarre are about 40 minutes away.
